After complimentary pick up service we will take you to the famous Golden Circle - the most visited attraction of Iceland. You’ll enjoy geysers, rift valleys, waterfalls and colorful volcanic crater. We’ll take you first to Thingvellir National Park, where you will see the astonishing spectacle of continental plates tearing apart. Here you can stand with one foot in America and the other in Europe, on either side of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Thingvellir is a place of great historical and cultural significance for Icelanders. It’s where its first parliament met for a thousand years, as chieftains would gather to make laws, dispense justice and settle disputes. Some were even executed in the “drowning pool”! The next stop on your Golden Circle tour is Geysir, the highlight of the Haukadalur geothermal area. Bubbling with “hot spring” activity, this is the place that gave geysers all over the world their name. The “Great Geysir” has fallen silent now, but another spouting spring called Strokkur is just a few meters away. Strokkur is an “old faithful”, erupting every few minutes, sending fountains of superheated water high into the air. You’ll smell the sulfur in the air, and you’ll sense the phenomenal power of nature boiling under the surface of the Earth! After Geysir, there is a short drive to another fantastic sight, Gullfoss. The “Gold Falls” are a two-step waterfall fed by the nearby glacier at Langjokull with freezing meltwater, thundering down 30 meters into a deep ravine. The power of these cascades creates a lot of mist and spray, so you might get a little wet if you get too close! On sunlit days, that means there will be constant displays of brilliant rainbows too. Next, we take you to the South Coast to visit Kerid, a brightly colored volcanic crater. Kerid is only a few thousand years old, and the crater’s colorful appearance comes from iron deposits in the rocks. The caldera is also covered with lush banks of velvet-green moss. Inside the crater lies a shallow turquoise-colored lake, making Kerid one of the most striking sights seen anywhere in Iceland. You will spend the night in Hveragerði - charming village famous for its geothermally heated greenhouses, Hveragerdi is the gateway to the South Coast of Iceland. We usually arrive there around 4 pm – which gives you plenty of time to enjoy this charming town. After a good night rest it is time to spend a day on Iceland’s sensational South Coast and to be thrilled by astonishing waterfalls, gleaming glacier-topped mountains and a dramatic black sand beach. In the summer, you’ll see the cutest seabirds in the world up close in their natural habitat! Wherever you look, you’ll see brooding volcanoes and beautiful snow-capped mountains as we make our way through the rich farmlands. Look out for the Icelandic horses on the way! Your first stop will be the fantastic waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi. The dazzling cascades crash down from 60 meters, and you can even walk behind Seljalandsfoss when the conditions are right – a unique experience! You’ll have heard the name of this mountain before – it’s Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano that stopped air traffic for a week in 2010! On the other side of the mountain is our next stop – another incredible waterfall that we call Skógafoss. The name means “Forest Falls”, but the early Viking settlers chopped all the trees down long ago! Look out for rainbows here on sunny days. The next stop on your dream day on the South Coast is Sólheimajökull. The name translates as the “Sun’s Home Glacier”, and it’s one of Iceland’s most accessible glaciers, so we’ll bring you here to take photos of this frozen natural marvel. Then we will make our way to Dyrhólaey, a magnificent peninsula of black rock arches that soars over a black sand beach. This magical spot is home to thousands of puffins in the summer months. Everyone loves puffins, and you’ll get perfect pictures of them here. Our last stop is the world-famous black sand beach at Reynisfjara. Feel the powerful Atlantic waves as they batter the stunning rocks of the Reynisdrangar and gaze at the hexagonal basalt columns hugging the cliffs. Don’t miss this tour – book today!
